Pontiac, Michigan -- Thirty-nine Michigan school districts lost millions of dollars when Governor Jennifer Granholm wielded her veto pen against additional school funding Monday. Districts taking the hit include some in Oakland County. Walled Lake Schools, Oakland County’s largest, alone will now have a $4.7 million gaping hole in its budget, according to media reports.

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson issues the following statement against the governor's veto:

"The Governor's veto last night of additional education funding (called 20j funding) was a stab in the back of public education in Michigan.  In one fell swoop Granholm has gone from the "Education Governor" to the "Eradication Governor." The gurgling you'll hear during this fiscal year will be the sound of school districts across our region going under."
