Oakland County, MI ― The federal government has informed the vaccine manufacturers there will be an interruption in distributing seasonal flu vaccine to all providers. This decision was made to prioritize the delivery of 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine, halting delivery of the seasonal flu vaccine. At the close of business today, Thursday, October 08, 2009, seasonal flu vaccine supply will be exhausted at the Oakland County Health Division. Oakland County Health Division is therefore forced to suspend its seasonal flu shot program at our Pontiac, Southfield and Walled Lake offices.
Oakland County Health Division has provided more than 24,000 seasonal flu shots since opening the first community outreach clinic in mid-September. When and if manufacturers resume shipping sufficient quantities of the seasonal flu vaccine, Oakland County Health Division will determine the feasibility of reopening its clinics.
For 2009 H1N1 and seasonal vaccine information updates, please continue to check our website at www.oakgov.com/health or call the Health Division’s Flu Shot Hotline at 800-434-3358 for more information.
