Auburn Hills, MI, September 25, 2009 - The Oakland Pet Adoption Center, in cooperation with Michigan Pug Rescue and Purina® Pro Plan® Rally to Rescue™,  will host a pet adoption event Saturday, October 10, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Oakland Pet Adoption Center, 1700 Brown Road in Auburn Hills.  The goal is to place as many animals as possible in caring and loving homes, so they will have the opportunity for a second chance in life.

More than 118,000 companion animals are euthanized in Michigan some of which are purebred, but all should be spared this horrible fate.  "The economic environment hasn't been good for man’s best friend" said Lawrence Obrecht, division manager of the Oakland Pet Adoption Center.  "We, as well as all rescues and shelters in the surrounding area, have seen a spike in owner surrendered animals over the past year."

More than 20 rescues will attend the one-day event, called Howl-A-Ween Fall Fetch, in hopes of finding people to adopt these animals which need good homes.  Free adoption kits will be available from Purina® Pro Plan with every adoption.  “If you are in the market for a new pet or just thinking about it, this will be the place to be.  The variety should be tremendous with the number of rescues participating” Joanie Toole, administrative supervisor of the Oakland Pet Adoption Center said.
