WATERFORD, Mich. - The following is the statement from Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson about the announced plans by two renewable energy companies to create a $725 million redevelopment project at the site of the closed Ford Wixom Assembly plant, creating the largest renewable energy park in the country.

"This is great news for Wixom, Oakland County and Michigan," Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said. "Alternative energy clearly falls under our Emerging Sectors program as we work to diversify our economy.  This is a giant step forward for Oakland County and the state as we become a global leader in renewable energy.  This is a win for Xtreme Power and Clairvoyant Energy and for us."

The project will create more than 4,000 jobs in the next two years, with room for expansion that both companies plan on in the future.

"The success of this project clearly shows that the strength of our advanced manufacturing and engineering capacity was the key to attracting these two firms," Patterson said. "This positions Oakland County as the leader for alternative energy innovation."

In five years, the Emerging Sectors program has brought in investment of more than $1.3 billion and created or retained more than 21,000 jobs.  The figures do not include the Ford Wixom announcement.
