Oakland County will be co-sponsoring a new annual event with the City of Rochester, the Rochester DDA and Oakland County Parks. On Friday and Saturday, January 25 & 26, 2008, the "Fire & Ice Fest" will take place in downtown Rochester. The City of Rochester and the Rochester DDA have had a popular winter festival for years, but this is an opportunity to make it bigger and better.

The event will commence on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m., and run until 9:00 p.m., with Opening Ceremonies, which will include fireworks, entertainment, ice sculptures, a shopping spectacular, restaurant crawl, horse drawn trolley rides, etc.

Saturday hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and will include more shopping, a geo-caching scavenger hunt, ice sculptures, trolley rides, ice skating, snow sculpting, fireworks, and other entertainment including special children's activities in the municipal park. Children's activities include: snow shoeing and cross country skiing lessons and demos, snowman/angel making, nature hikes along the Paint Creek Trail, and hopefully dog sledding demos.

Warming stations sponsored by the Lion's Club and South Eastern Michigan Indians, Inc. will be set up both downtown and in the municipal park, so there will be plenty of opportunity to keep warm.

This will be a fun-filled family event, which is estimated to draw 15,000 participants. For more information, contact Julie Skene, Event Coordinator, Oakland County Economic Development & Community Affairs at 248-858-5437.
