Workforce Development, a division of the Department of Economic Development & Community Affairs, helps train and place unemployed workers by coordinating Michigan Works! programs locally.

We also administer the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and other employment and training programs for Oakland County Michigan Works! Agencies (MWA) under the joint policy direction of the Workforce Development Board and the Oakland County Executive.

The (WIA) establishes programs to prepare adults, youth, dislocated workers, displaced homemakers and the economically disadvantaged for participation in the labor force. These programs provide job training and other services that will result in increased employment and earnings, increased educational and occupational skills, and decreased welfare dependency, thereby improving the quality of the workforce and enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of the nation.
